Supporting the Revitalisation of Ore Station with Friends of Ore Station

At Gardenscape, we’re proud to supply community-driven projects that inspire positive change. One such initiative is Friends of Ore Station, led by Suzanne Horgan, whose mission is to “infuse much-needed community love into Ore Station, Hastings.” This passionate group is committed to revitalising the neglected space next to Ore Station, transforming it into a source of local pride and unity.

Friends of Ore Station is turning this overlooked plot into an inviting and practical community garden, complete with an edible garden on the platform itself.

We’re delighted to supply essential materials for this transformation. Our 4-10mm Shingle will be featured in the construction of meandering paths that guide visitors through the garden. A rich Topsoil/Manure/Perlite Mix will nourish the beds and borders, ensuring healthy plant growth. To aid in ground stability and suppress weeds, 1m x 15m and 2m x 50m rolls of Groundtex Membrane, secured with membrane pegs, will be used throughout the site.

Suzanne Horgan shared the vision behind this initiative: “This transformative project seeks to breathe new life into the area, emphasising biodiversity through organic gardening. The garden serves as an aspirational space, providing social connections, environmental education, and a shared community commitment.”

If you are local to Hastings and are inspired to make a difference, Friends of Ore Station is seeking volunteers to help bring this community garden to life. This project is more than just beautifying the station; it’s about tackling fresh food poverty and fostering a resilient, connected community.

We look forward to revisiting the site and seeing how this remarkable effort flourishes.
